Final Portfolio

  In this class, self-regulation is very important. My behavior in this class is good because I ask questions when I am either confused or stuck on something. When we are assigned something in this class, I control my "elephant" most of the time. But I'm pretty sure everyone has one has an "off day". Mr.Neufeld hasn't had to tell me to get on task. My attendance has been very good, always on time and prepared. I chose the right seat selection because the peers at my table are focused. When we did the "Romeo and Juliet" play on twitter my partner, Ryan Austin and were very task-oriented. When assignments are due, I hand them in sometimes late because I don't get what I'm suppose to write. For example, our short-stories, I am stuck on how to expand it, and it's already late. Sometimes it's internet thing, at my house the wifi is very slow because we have around 13-15 devices.So sometimes it doesn't hand in even though I have finished. But when it comes to other things, such as finishing the novel, I finished the novel in the same class day. I use a respectful tone in this class and respect everyone. My strongest assignment was the tattoo assignment because I made a good connection with it. Short stories are one of my biggest weaknesses In English. I'm not that creative. I work hard but a break is also needed, after the break I gradually get on the regular pace I was at.I think I deserve a 30%.

My contributions to the learning environment is mediocre.Sometimes I comment, sometimes I don't know what to say. Usually what I want to say I can't say it because someone else says it. But I give constructive criticism in class to the person by talking to them.I help my peers with technology issues as well.For example, with the laptop Jeremy uses, he had trouble logging in so I helped by letting him use my student login.I share my opinion with the classmates at my table.I'm afraid to tell the class just in case it's a bad idea.Whenever I am stuck I ask Chris,Ryan A., Jeremy, and Paramveer.I listen to my peers and compare what was my thinking to theirs.I complete most of my assignments and I like the constructive criticism that I get, just helps me improve. I think I deserve a 28%.

I make a lot of connections when I write an assignment. For example, My tattoo assignment where i made a religious connection as well as a family connection.

I contribute to my group and I adapt to new ideas. When we were in groups for Romeo and Juliet. I listened to Ryan's idea and shared mine and we acknowledge each others points.

Short story

He warned her about the book. Now it was too late.

Tracey entered a creepy store that had no sign that sells magic things such as voodoo dolls and such,She likes magic.She was looking around until she was intrigued by a red book with golden lining.She picked it up. Tracey wasn't aware that the old man Who's name was Mr.Linden and was running the store was keeping a close eye on her. When she saw him staring at her, She starts to walk towards him.

"Is there a problem?"

No, But why did you pick this book?

"It's cool I guess, I like magic"

"May I recommend that you don't buy this book, it is not what you think"

Why not?

"Because it holds many secrets and other things you don't know and don't know what Its capable of"

"Magic is only an illusion though"

"That's what you think"

On that note, Tracey had bought the book and left the store and started to walk home. It was about 9:30 pm, she had finished her homework and had dinner. She was just laying in bed staring at the book that was on her nightstand. Tracey kept thinking about why the old man told her not to buy it.

The next day, after school Tracey heads back to Mr.Linden.She goes back and says " What is the book capable of?"

"Do you really wanna know"

"yes"

"This book is full of magic spells, some that are unspoken of"

"Woah"

"Yes woah, so hand over the book"

Tracey runs out of the store and doesn't reply to him.Later on that night.She stares at the book which in her lap.Her curiosity got the best of her. She opens the book to a random page where it says "Crucio" and says it out loud. Soon later the book begins to glow and next thing to appear are vines that slowly started to wrap around her legs then soon her whole body.She yells for help but it was too late.

Man From the South

Introduction: Around 6 o'clock in Jamaica, the narrator is sitting next to the pool enjoying a beer and the evening sun.

Conflict:Man vs. himself because when the bet took place he was deciding whether to say anything or stop the bet.Internal.

Rising action: Is when the American sailor, the narrator, and the creepy Cuban guy go up to his room and tie the sailors' hand to the desk.

Climax: Happens when a lady comes in and says "Carlos,Carlos" which was the Cuban guys name and stops the bet from happening.

Falling action: The lady tells the truth about Carlos, about how he has made bets against a lot of people.

Resolution: The narrator hands over the keys and sees that she has only a finger and a thumb, which means she had made bets with him.

Protagonist:The sailor and the referee.

Antagonist: Carlos.

Summative Essay

   Walking a mile in someone else's shoes can change how a person feels about other people and perhaps change how they feel about themselves.You also find out what people go through or why people like different things.

   In my own experiences, I stepped in my dad's shoes when I had started working. 11 hours a day is not easy. I appreciate and understand what my dad does to provide for us. Where Mr.Sahota works is not a easy job, you need strength and need to be good math. When my father took me for the first time, i was shocked and exhausted, but after a while I got used to it and saw why my dad loved his job and realized it isn't easy to make money.

   In the play "Romeo and Juliet", when the audience thinks Lady Capulet isn't nice because she wants Juliet to get married at 13. What the audience didn't realize till later is that she was married young and then raped which lead to her being a mother by the age of 13. She was 13, she doesn't know how to raise a child because she is a child.In Act 1 Scene 3 "I was your mother much upon these years that you are now a maid".The audience didn't know she had another side to her other than partying.

   For example in the novel "The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime", when the Boone family had to step in each other shoes.When Chris's father steps into his ex-wife's shoes. Meaning when Mr.Boone told Chris his mother was dead so he could forget about her and makes him think she's not important. That happened to Mr.Boone when he told Chris he killed Wellington. "Sometimes he tried to talk to me through the door, but I didn't answer him."Chris is isn't comfortable anymore.

my experience- in highschool, they are some people you just hate, after a while you start to let go of the hatred and be more forgiving. Chris's mother steps into Mr.Boone's shoes when she realizes that Mr.Boone did everything for Chris and now she has to do it.In chapter 233,"There was a toilet and a bathroom that other people used and Mother had to clean it before I used it or I wouldn't use it and sometimes I wet myself because other people were in the bathroom." Those are some of the things you have to do for Chris. Christopher steps into his parents shoes when he realizes that he's "high maintenance".

 Stepping into someone else's shoes is difficult because you are doing things that you may not do or live with.Walking a mile in someone's shoes can change your perspective because you may start understand on how they things or people work, sometimes it won't change your perspective  at all.  

Who killed Wellington?

    I know Mr.Boone, Chris's father, killed Wellington because of a relationship he had with Mrs.Shears, it ended thus leading to the death. Mr.Boone is Mrs.Shears' neighbor and it was 2:00am so he must have been home. He used the pitchfork from Mrs.Shears garden and she didn't put it into her she

     I first thought he committed the crime because he's an alcoholic, tries to drink away his problems but that just leads to more problems and loss of memory."Father was sitting on the sofa watching snooker on the television and drinking scotch.There were tears coming out of his eyes"."And father was sitting down and she stood next to him and held his dad against her bosoms" which indicates that he was having a relationship with Mrs.Shears and it ended so Mr.Boone took his revenge.

     In this novel, I believe the red herring is when Mr.Boone says "Mr.Shears is evil" which to me indicates that he might have killed Wellington. Also I thought it was Mr.Shears because he might have wanted to get back at Mrs.Shears because of her relationship with Mr.Boone. But it doesn't make sense if you get back at them two years later.

     I know Mr.Boone killed Wellington because whenever Chris brought up the dog he would ignore it or say something like this:"It's a bloody dog,Christopher, a bloody dog", "leave it". Which makes me assume that he has something to do with it. Could mean that he has committed the crime and he's feeling guilty or having anxiety. When he says "Mrs.Shears is not a friend anymore.", that could mean his relationship is over with Mrs.Shears and he's sad about it because he can't "love".Meaning he has no partner and Chris doesn't like being touched or hugged, so everything he loves can't love him back. He killed the dog because of the way things ended with Mrs.Shears. Like I said before he loves to drink, so he probably committed the crime when he was drunk and late night because everyones sleeping.

With the evidence I have provided it is possible that Mr.Boone killed Wellington because of the way he responds to certain situations.This could've been prevented if both couples didn't go their "own ways" and then Wellington wouldn't have died.



 

Stress Songs

I'm not one of those people that listens to sad songs all the time. If something happens to me, school problems, personal problems anything along those lines, I listen to songs that will hype me up. The more hype the song the more confident I am in my abilities. I tend to forget about my problems so like a wise rapper once said "I ain't worried bout nothing". I avoid problems by listening to music. The song that I chose is "Jump Around" by House of Pain because it is a upbeat song that pumps me up and makes me "bust a move" if you know what I mean. I guess my favourite line is "I came to win, battle me that's a sin" because to me if you have that positive mentality and if you're hardworking, I believe you can do anything and no one can stop you, even though the songs states it's a rap battle

Friendship Comparison

Intro-In Romeo and Juliet, friendships are a very big and complex part of the play. Today modern teenagers still have some of the traits from centuries ago in Shakespeare's time. But friendships in the 21st century are better than the friendships in the 16th century.

Argument #1-Friendships now and centuries ago still follow some of the same principles like supporting friends either if they're in trouble or distressed."Be ruled by me, forget to think of her","By giving liberty unto thine eyes;Examine other beauties." In act 1 scene 1, Romeo is depressed that Rosaline isn't affectionate about him. Those quotes are from Benvolio who is trying to comfort Romeo, by telling him that there is no need to weep over one lady when there's plenty more out there. When this particular event happens now days it's the same reaction, friends comfort friends."I will stay with thee, and never from this palace of dim light depart again.Also men or boys these days don't have suicidal thoughts like Romeo.

Argument #2-  In Romeo and Juliet, friendships don't always revolve around being happy, it could also be fatal. For example; when Mercutio says "A plague o'both your houses", he says this because his friendship caused his death. If Romeo fought his own battle then Mercutio would still be alive. It relates to our time because friendships can cause a rivalry, which leads to in school brawls and in those fights people jump in trying to help.Sometimes the end result isn't pretty. But it is not as severe as the fights in Shakespeare's time.


Argument #3-friendships are better now than they were back in their time for many reasons.In Shakespeare's time, if two people were arguing, its automatically going to start a fight because fighting is the solution.In our time, there are multiple ways of stopping a brawl. Just talk it out, fight, or just simply ignore it.Also most fights won't lead to something fatal like death. Another way the 21st century is better is that friends stay together.For example, in the play Balthazar followed romeos instructions of staying outside and letting him commit suicide.Friends don't let friends commit suicide, matter of fact they would persuade them not to. Even though Balthazar admires and cares for Romeo, he shouldn't have listened to Romeo."By heaven, I will tear thee joint by joint and strew this hungry churchyard with thy limbs", "I will be gone sir, and not trouble you".Our generation we don't threaten our closest pals.


Friendships now are likely more tolerant than they were back then. In the sixteenth century they weren't tolerant, certain things could lead to death. The reason to compare them both is to show that some characteristics have improved in relationships in our time. Some of them are loyalty and honesty.
